About Jack Zheng and MIHIYO Labs

Who is Jack Zheng?
Jack Zheng is the founder and chief formulator of MIHIYO Labs. He is a trained pharmacist who holds a dual bachelor's degree and a Master of Science in Pharmacy, and is currently a PhD candidate in pharmaceutical sciences. His doctoral research is focused on transmucosal drug delivery and the design of oral thin-film dosage forms — the same scientific foundation that the MIHIYO product line is built on.

What is MIHIYO Labs?
MIHIYO Labs is a US-facing supplement company that designs and manufactures one specific dosage form: the oral dissolving strip (ODS) — a thin polymer film that hydrates against the oral mucosa in 30 to 60 seconds and delivers a fixed, water-free dose. The current product range includes a caffeine Energy-Focus strip, a low-dose melatonin Sleep-Support strip, and a 5-HTP plus L-theanine Mood-Boost strip.

How is each MIHIYO product developed?
Every MIHIYO product is developed from a foundation of rigorous pharmaceutical theory and controlled laboratory experiment. The two metrics that drive every formulation decision are bioavailability — the fraction of an administered dose that reaches systemic circulation — and absorption speed, measured by the time to peak plasma concentration (Tmax).
The oral dissolving strip is purpose-built around those two metrics. By placing the active ingredient directly against the buccal mucosa, an ODS can bypass part of the hepatic first-pass metabolism that limits swallowed forms, and it begins releasing within seconds, compared with the 10 to 26 minute tablet disintegration window measured in the stomach (Fredholt et al., 2022).
Melatonin is the clearest example. The clinical literature supports doses in the 0.3 to 1 mg range (Zhdanova et al., 2001; EFSA, 2011), well below the 5 to 10 mg products that dominate US shelves. A precision low-dose film keeps the dose where the human evidence is strongest, and it sidesteps the labeling variability documented across US melatonin gummies, where a 2023 JAMA analysis found 88 percent of products inaccurately labeled (Cohen et al.).
Inside the MIHIYO laboratory
MIHIYO formulation work runs out of a dedicated pharmaceutical R&D laboratory. Every prototype follows a standardized protocol: solvent-casting of the polymer matrix, calibrated active-ingredient dispersion, thickness uniformity QC, in-vitro disintegration testing in simulated saliva, and HPLC-based content uniformity analysis on each batch.

Inside the production line
Commercial production runs on a GMP-aligned thin-film coating and converting line, with cut-to-size unit-dose packaging and humidity-controlled storage. Every production run is documented with a lot number, retention samples, and an internal certificate of analysis.
